There’s no better way to start a Monday than with a box of gluten-free cookies on your desk! I opened the brown package left in my office and was happy to find bags of Maxine’s Heavenly Cookies just begging to be ripped open.

Maxine’s bills themselves as delicious cookies handmade from the purest ingredients. They say that despite being a yummy cookie, they’re also healthy snacks that are certified gluten-free, non-GMO, and vegan. Healthy, vegan, gluten-free AND delicious? I had to see for myself…

Looking at the ingredients, I notice the base of all of them is gluten-free oats, so I’m guessing they’ll all have that oatmeal cookie essence. I first tried the cinnamon oatmeal raisin. They were dense and a little crumbly, which I’m used to with gluten-free cookies. One cookie filled me up, which is good because I notice after that each cookie is 120 calories. I’m guessing it’s the oats and that leave me feeling satisfied, but the taste was, in fact, yummy. They were a nice mix of a traditional oatmeal raisin cookie with a hint of cinnamon to make them unique.

Since one cookie filled me up, I waited until the afternoon to try more. Next was the pumpkin pecan spice, which had a nice texture with the pecans and a lovely flavorful fall spice taste. Still a bit crumbly, but what you gonna do? If you like pumpkin spice treats and don’t mind a few crumbs, these cookies are for you.

I also nibbled on the chocolate chocolate chips, which were a little too chocolatey for me (I know, I’m weird), but the peanut butter chocolate chip hit the right chocolate note. And indeed, all the cookies did have that oatmeal cookie ‘spirit’ underneath their other flavors.

Another coworker tried a cookie lunch and was surprised to learn they were not only gluten-free but vegan as well. We all agreed that we wouldn’t have guessed that.

So yes, we agree, these are surprisingly good gluten-free and vegan cookies!
