Yesterday, a package of gluten-free Keen-Wah Decadence bars arrived at the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness (NFCA) office, so our office manager came by my desk to drop them off. She mentioned they’re among her favorites and was excited to divvy up the bars to taste test. I had never tried Keen-Wah Decadence before yesterday, so I was anticipating a tasty gluten-free treat based on her reviews.
I wasn’t disappointed. I opted for the Chocolate Chia variety and was pretty impressed. I was expecting a more gritty or grainy taste because the bars (as I’m sure you’ve guessed by now) contain quinoa and chia seeds, among other organic ingredients. Instead, I was greeted with a crisp, crunchy burst of chocolate and a nice, coffee-like flavor. One Keen-Wah Decadence bar is considered a complete protein, so not only is this bar tasty, it will keep you satisfied for hours, too.
Rachel, NFCA’s Office Manager, said she’s a big fan of the Cayenne Cinnamon variety. I have to admit I was surprised by the flavor combination. I didn’t try this bar, only because I am not a fan of cinnamon. I did, however, find one of the bars on my desk with a Post-It note stuck to it from NFCA’s Founder and President Alice Bast that read “Delicious!!” So, that’s two very positive reviews of the Cayenne Cinnamon variety from the NFCA office.
As I often do when I receive products to try for Gluten-Free Hot Products, I left the remaining bars in the kitchen for the rest of the NFCA staff to try at will. I consider it a good sign when the products disappear quickly and sure enough – the Chocolate Chia, Cayenne Cinnamon and Coconut Almond varieties are nowhere to be found.
