Qrunch Quinoa Burgers

By | Jan 21, 2013

I know what you’re thinking.  A quinoa burger?  While it’s definitely not your traditional beef and cheese on a bun, if you are a quinoa fan, you have to try out the new Qrunch Quinoa Burgers.  Actually, even if you are not a big quinoa fan, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the taste and texture of these gluten-free meatless burgers.

Qrunch Quinoa Burgers: Package

Qrunch Quinoa Burgers

I have to admit, I was skeptical at first.  I was expecting something crumbly and grainy, but when I opened the burger package, I found a solid frozen patty.  You can heat these in a pan, pop them in your toaster or bake them in the oven (I opted for the toaster oven option).  They are precooked, so they only need to be heated, making them a quick go-to option for weeknight dinners.  I tasted it plain (delicious) and then added some of my homemade salsa with onions (even better).

The Qrunch burger is even delicious by itself!

I’m not even sure how to describe the taste of the quinoa burger.  It wasn’t bitter and it certainly wasn’t crumbly; and yes, it had some “qrunch” to it!  The burgers are made with more than just quinoa.  It’s also a veggie burger packed with organic spinach, broccoli, carrots, garlic, onion and millet, too.  This is no bland burger.  No single flavor overpowers another, making the burger a versatile blend.  You could eat this as a traditional burger and put your ketchup, cheese and pickles on it, or Qrunch even suggests cutting it up and adding it to a salad.  I read that as an option on their website before I tried the burgers and I couldn’t imagine how that would taste, but now that I have tried the burger for myself, I think this is a great idea.  Next time you find yourself bored with your salad, give this option a try!

Loved the Qrunch burger with some homemade salsa! Yum!

Not only do these quinoa burgers cater to a gluten-free diet, but they’re also free from eggs, corn, dairy, nuts, soy and sweeteners, so they’re a good addition to allergen-free diets as well.  I grabbed these from my local Wegmans, which carried the original flavor, but the burgers are also available in Spicy Italian, Sweet Curry and Green Chile.  I also have to give a shout-out to the staff at the Wegmans in Malvern, PA. Not only did they have a great understanding of the need for gluten-free food, but they also hunted down the burgers for me in their stockroom, since they were sold out in the freezer section (popular burgers!).  Thanks, Wegmans!

If you want to try these quinoa burgers out for yourself (and I highly recommend that you do), they’re available in stores other than Wegmans, too.  Just click here for the store finder on the Qrunch website.  If you’ve already tried the Qrunch burgers, comment below and let me know what you think!

Hi there. First of all I love Wegmans having traveled through New York state many years ago and stopping at their store and fell in love with it. Wish we had one here on the west coast.
Second, since I love experimenting in the kitchen (esp. with tempeh since I have been involved with it for over 30 years) I might just try coming up with my own quinoa burger.
Several weeks ago on the Steven and Chris show (Living Well Network, out of Canada) the they chick pea burgers using of course eggs so I tried two variations one with flax meal + water = slurry, and the other with mashed potatoes. Neither one kept their shape although the taste was great.

Thanks for checking out the blog! Good luck trying out your own version of the quinoa burger! They are certainly not the traditional “burger” but they are fantastic!
