Well folks, the days of disturbing looking energy bars and chalky-chocolate tastes are over. No Opportunity Wasted, aka N.O.W. bars, are the cream of the crop when it comes to this health food category. With ingredients like chia seeds, white chocolate and Manuka honey, these babies will fuel you up without bringing your taste buds down.
N.O.W. bars come in a variety of flavors and energy amounts. If you’re looking for a small snack to eat on the way to the gym in the morning, the N.O.W. Newton Snack bar is the answer. This bar comes in both soft-baked Manuka honey and soft-baked Strawberry. When I first tasted the Manuka honey flavor, it reminded me of the old school days when I used to eat McDonald’s apple pies. I know, the flavor isn’t even apple, but the moist crust and fruity filling really brought back the memories. The Newton Snack bars have 150 calories, 32g of carbs, and 4g of fiber – the perfect amount of nutrients and energy to get you through your workday or workout.
For a more substantial bar, you can find comfort in the White Chocolate, Fruit & Nut, Honeycomb with Chia & Raisins or the Peanut & Caramel bar. With 280 calories, 42g of carbs, and 11g of protein, these have gotten me through many long “I don’t have any food to pack for work” days.
My favorite flavor is the White Chocolate, Fruit & Nut because it has a GREAT taste to it, totally blowing other bars of its kind out of the water. I usually don’t venture into chia seed territory, but they worked perfectly in this bar. I highly recommend it! (But pack some floss because those little son of a guns get stuck in your teeth!)
The Honeycomb with Chia & Raisins N.O.W. bar is another nominee for the hunger games award. The ingredients are meant to be together, and it fills me up for 4 hours + (which is a big deal for me, because I am constantly hungry).
The Peanut & Caramel flavor bar was good, but not exactly my favorite. I am not your usual peanut-lover because I enjoy when there is fruit to balance everything out. Don’t get me wrong, the bar was still tasty, filling, and got the job done!
