All of the recipes included in Tammy Credicott’s debut cookbook, The Healthy Gluten-Free Life, were created as part of her journey to improve her families’ health. This journey began several years before when her husband was diagnosed with Celiac Disease along with some serious food allergies. Not long after that Tammy and her husband began to realize their children also seemed to be suffering from symptoms of food allergies. What started as a search for food that could accommodate her family’s food restrictions and still taste good, grew into a much broader understanding of the relationship between her family’s health and the food they eat everyday.
Tammy defines healthy as “all encompassing” so it seems natural that the books focus is on balance and moderation. This means lots of well-balanced dishes filled with natural ingredients and flavors as well as tasty treats made from scratch to limit harmful ingredients. It is also easy to tell that The Healthy Gluten-Free Life was made with a family in mind since the dishes included are diverse enough to be sure to please a wide range of taste and fit easily into a family dynamic. The result of this is a cookbook filled with over 200 recipes for every meal including breakfast, snacks, dinners, side dishes, desserts and more. In addition to being completely gluten-free all the recipes included are also egg, dairy, and soy free.
The recipes in The Healthy Gluten-Free Life where developed in Tammy’s kitchen for her family so in addition to recipes she has also included the tips, tricks and techniques she picked up along the way. There are even some extra tips included in the back of the book to help make packing a healthier school lunch for young children easier. Also included in the back of the book is a recipe index that utilizes the colorful and enticing photographs of each dish to make navigating this huge cookbook a bit easier.
