Gluten-Free Canning with Mrs. Wages Products

By | Aug 18, 2011

As fall creeps closer, the first of many harvests has arrived at my local community garden. As a huge fresh food fan, I am thrilled to see the amount of fruit and vegetables our plots have been able to yield. However during the peak of each crop the quantities can be a bit overwhelming. As a result I decided to look into canning and preserving.

Canning fresh food is a great option even if you don’t have a garden overrun with ripe tomatoes. It is a helpful method to reduce the amount of commercially processed foods in your diet, and is also a way to control exposure to unwanted or even harmful ingredients such as sugar, fats and gluten. Though it is a healthy option it can also be an intimidating one.

MrsWagesPizzaSauceThis is where Mrs. Wages products can help. Whether you are a canning new comers like myself or a preserving pro, Mrs. Wages products are designed to make the process of preserving fresh fruits and vegetables easy and convenient.  Mrs. Wages offers everything from pickling and sauces mixes to fruit Pectin. All of Mrs. Wages products are made with all-natural ingredients, have no chemical additives, are gluten and fat free, and contain no MSG. A few of my favorites include Mrs. Wages No Cook Freezer Jam Fruit Pectin, Mrs. Wages® Chipotle & Garlic Salsa Mix, Mrs. Wages® Pizza Sauce Tomato Mix, and Mrs. Wages® Quick Process Bread & Butter Pickle Mix. In addition to offering great products that help simplify the process of preserving fruits and vegetables, Mrs. Wages also offers canning guides and has a website packed with information and recipes.

I always use the Mrs Wages dill pickle mix or Kosher dill if I can find it. I have one step daughter who is a total pickle fiend and it’s the only way I can keep up with her 🙂 Everyone always wants my pickles, too, and it’s so easy. I just love having everything premixed for me. I grew up helping my mom and grandma do pickles every year so just had to start up doing my own again. Have done not just cucumbers, but jalapenos, carrots (they love the carrots) potatoes (best potato salad ever!) turnips, asparagus, cauliflower, pea pods, green beans.. pretty much any veggie I had about at the time. Some worked better then others, but all have been good.
