While writing for Gluten-Free Hot Products, I have come across a wide variety of gluten-free chips and snacks. I’ve sampled and enjoyed many variations and combinations, from standard potato chips made with safer seasonings to chips made of corn and rice However, the product I sampled for today’s review is the first I have tried of its kind. The unique product I speak of is Beanitos.
As the name may imply, Beanitos, is made primarily from beans. In addition to being gluten-free, Beanitos is also the only bean chip on the market that is 100% corn free. Forman’s Bean Brand Foods, the manufactures of Beanitos, noticed that the food industry is swamped with corn products, many of which are unhealthy. So they decided to launch a snack product that excludes corn, and takes advantages of the natural health benefits beans can offer.
The health benefits of this product are understandably high because they are made from two powerhouse foods, whole beans and whole grain rice. One serving, 10 chips, of Beanitos boast 4 grams of protein, 5 grams of fiber, and 600 mg of Omega 3s. But how do they taste, you ask? Well they taste like beans.
The overall flavor of the chips is enjoyable. All the flavors tasted pleasantly seasoned and seemed just salty enough to complement the natural bean flavor. The first bite is very crunchy. Then after chewing the chips for a few moments the texture becomes closer to that of refried beans. If you enjoy beans, crunchy & flavorful snacks, and/or have a corn allergy, Beanitos are a great product to try.
Beanitos come in four flavors, Black Bean, Pinto Bean & Flaxseed, Chipotle BBQ, and Cheddar Cheese and Pinto Beans. Of these flavors I enjoyed the Chipotle the most because the sweet and spicy flavor paired very nicely with the bean taste and texture of the chips.
