More Gluten-Free Chex

By | Apr 6, 2009

Any one on a specialized diet knows how hard it can be to eat a quick healthy breakfast. Variety is another big issue. This is particularly true with a gluten-free diet. So many cereal choices are out of reach. General Mills’ Chex Brand

Gluten-Free Rice Chex

Gluten-Free Rice Chex

has come to the rescue. Last year they modified their ingredients for Rice Chex Cereal to make it gluten-free while maintaining its trademark tastiness. Now they are tackling variety by releasing more flavors reformulated as gluten-free. Corn, Honey Nut, Strawberry, Chocolate, and Cinnamon Chex are all currently in production and scheduled to start appearing on store shelves June 1st, 2009. The manufacturer, General Mills, has replaced the barley malt syrup with molasses in and effort to make these products gluten-free without taking away any of the crunchy, oven toasted yumminess they are known for. If you already like the Chex Rice cereal, or have been looking for a new breakfast or snack option then you are in for a treat. While your waiting for these other flavors check out the delicious recipes listed on Chex.com using the Rice Chex Mix and totally gluten free here. As always it is a good idea to check the labels to make sure your local store is carrying the gluten-free versions of these popular cereals and snacks. Once you have, prepare to enjoy gluten-free crunchy goodness.

A week ago, I posted a question with two different sides about whether or not “Corn” Chex were already, at that time, in fact Gluten-Free at http://www.gluten-freesimplicity.com/.
I do not see a source on your article, but assuming it is valid, I would infer from your post that they plan to release more “Gluten-Free” versions of “Chex” (possibly including “Corn”) on June 1st, 2009.
    This is great news!!!
    Thanks for the information.
If you have any clarifying information, I would be grateful if you would help us out by commenting on the related post at http://www.gluten-freesimplicity.com/?p=1983.
    Keep up the good work!!!

Thank you for visiting our blog and commenting.
The Gluten-free Chex post was a result of hearing about this exciting news on the NFCA’s facebook page. I found one press release by general mills about this http://www.generalmills.com/corporate/media_center/news_release_detail.aspx?itemID=31762&catID=227 .After looking into it further I noticed a blogger we (the NFCA) works closely with, Zach of Gluten Free Raleigh, had more details on the subject including a release date, that post can be found here: http://glutenfreeraleigh.blogspot.com/search?q=chex . After reading your comment I decided it was a good idea to contact General Mill’s and I am now waiting for a reply and will keep you posted.

FYI – my local grocery store has already started carrying the NEW versions of Chex. Please read the labels carefully before purchasing. The Cinnamon Chex is NOT gluten free. The box clearly states NEW! on it but, the ingredient label lists Barley Malt. Strawberry Chex and Chocolate Chex are incredibly delicious and gluten free! Yummy!
